FASHION EVOLUTION THROUGH THE DECADES

Looking back to the beginning of the twentieth century ,we can see that designers were already trying to give women a bit of autonomy over their own lives, they were starting to innovate fashion in a way that broke some of the ideas of woman inferiority that were impregnated in society back then. Women in their hard path towards equal rights and empowerment have used fashion as a tool to show what they want ,what they are after without having to say a word.An example of that is the 2010s trend Athleisure ,that shows that now that women are really getting into the business world they want to combine casual with comfortable and athletic and show that they can do the same things as men, like work and do sports that were things only done by men in the beginning of the twentieth century.

In the 20s women started to rebel after seeing the men die because of the great war, they wanted to have equal rights to enjoy their lives and to have it they started going to bars to drink, smoke, they wanted to do the same things as men. In the 60s with the introduction of the pill ,women wanted a new kind of freedom, they now knew they had autonomy over their lives so they started wearing clothes that showed a lot of skin ,even Jackie Kennedy started wearing sleeveless dresses that became one of the most known trends of the decade. In the 80s not only women but men joined the youth movement that had come from the 60s ,they all wanted to be different and have attitude .One of the most famous trends the decade is,Material Girl,a trend set by Madonna . With that women broke completely all the conformity and behavior ideas society had for them, women now had almost full autonomy over their lives.

On the 2010s decade we have the pluri-empowerment of women, they don't need to wear mini-skirts or short dresses to show that they are independent and strong. We are now in a decade with a trend called-The End of the Naked Look-the trend wants to express the pluri-empowerment of women with long dresses and conservative clothes prioritizing the individual in itself and what it needs over the unnecessary attempt of women to prove that they are strong and independent;because nowadays that is a known fact. Marc Jacobs once said “To me ,clothing is a form of self-expression -there are hints about who you are in what you wear.” That sentence explains exactly why fashion is used as a tool for empowerment ,women dressed with attitude and courage and still do, to show men the truth, which is that we are brave and have attitude just as men do and we want to be treated the same.

*“I don't do fashion,I am fashion.”.     -Coco Chanel

*“ If you can't be better than your competition just dress better.”.          -Anna Wintour.
